परमहंस योगानंद भारताचे प्रथम योग गुरु होते ज्यांचे उद्देश्य पश्चिमेस राहून योग शिक्षण देणे हे होते . १९२० च्या दशकात जेव्हा त्यांनी संपूर्ण अमेरिकेचा दौरा केला, ज्यास ते "आधात्मिक आंदोलन " म्हणत , उत्साही श्रोत्यांनी अमेरीकेची मोठ्यात मोठी सभागृहे भरली.त्यांचा प्रारंभिक प्रभाव शक्तिशाली होता; पण त्यांचा स्थायी प्रभाव आणखीनच शक्तिशाली आहे . सर्वप्रथम १९४६ मध्ये छापलेल्या या पुस्तकाने जगात एका आध्यात्मिक क्रांतीचा प्रारंभ करून त्यास सतत प्रेरित केले आहे . परमहंस योगानंदांच्या स्तराचे संत आपल्या जीवनातील अनुभवांचा प्रत्यक्ष खुलासा कचितच लिहितात . अनेक धार्मिक परंपरांच्या अनुयायांनी ऑटोबायोग्राफी ऑफ ए योगी ला आध्यात्मिक साहित्यातील एक उत्कृष्ट रचना असे मानले आहे. तरीही त्याच्या संपूर्ण गहनतेत , ते सौम्य हास्य , चैतन्यपूर्ण गोष्टी व व्यावहारिक सामान्य ज्ञानाने परिपूर्ण आहे १९४६ च्या मूल आवृतीचे हे प्रथम मराठी मुद्रण आहे जरी नंतरचे पुनर्मुद्रण , १९५२ मधील लेखकाच्या देहावसनानंतरचे सुधारित बदल दर्शवतात , त्यांच्या लाखोंहून अधिक प्रती विकल्या गेल्या , आणि १९ हुन अधिक भाषांमध्ये त्याचे भाषांतर झाले , सुरुवातीच्या काही हजार मूळ प्रती संग्रहकर्त्यांच्या हातात गायब झाल्या .या पुनर्मुद्रणामुळे १९४६ ची प्रत आपल्या सर्वशक्तीनिशी पुन्हा एकदा उपलब्ध झाली आहे .ज्या रुपात महान योग गुरूंनी त्याला प्रथम प्रस्तुत केले होते . "योगानंदांच्या जीवनात प्रकाशित मूळ , आवृत्तीमध्ये वाचक स्वत: योगानंदांच्या संपर्कात जास्त रहातो . जरी योगानंदांनी केंद्र आणि संस्था स्थापन केल्या तरी एका चर्चपेक्षा दुसऱ्या चर्चला महत्त्व देण्यापेक्षा व्यक्तीचा दिव्यत्वाशी संपर्क करून देण्यामध्ये त्यांना जास्त काळजी होती. या महान आध्यात्मिक व योगिक ग्रंथांच्या मूळ आवृत्तीमध्ये या भावनेला जास्त सहजपणे जाणता येते .

Paramhansa Yogananda A Biography
Why a biography of Paramhansa Yogananda, when he himself wrote a world-famous account of his own life in the book, Autobiography of a Yogi? The answer is, quite simply, that he wrote his book in a spirit of such humility that the reader could only intuit the author's spiritual greatness from his perfect attitude toward every life situation.
