Anant Pai is the maker of the famous children's comic books called Tinkle and Amar Chitra Katha. He is fondly called Uncle Pai by children. He had noticed that on a quiz show on Doordarshan, children could not answer questions related to Indian mythology but could answer questions about Greek mythology. This gave him the idea of writing stories about Indian mythology. His books have sold over eighty six million copies, with four hundred and forty titles. He founded the Partha Institute of Personality Development that deals with personality development in children and teenagers. He has received the Maharashtra Rajya Hindi Sahitya Academy Award, Lifetime Achievement Award at the first Indian comic convention and Raja Rammohan Roy Library Foundation's Award.
