आपला शेजार आपल्याला बदलता येत नाही. गेली अनेक शतकं आपला शेजारी असलेल्या चीनबरोबरचे आपले संबंध विलक्षण गुंतागुंतीचे. विशेषत: माओंच्या कारकिर्दीत झालेल्या १९६२ च्या युद्धानंतर हे संबंध चांगलेच ताणले गेले. वास्तविक आजचा चीन आणि माओंचा चीन यात जमीन - अस्मानाचा फरक. साम्यवादाचं नाव लावणाऱ्या चीनमध्ये आज प्रत्यक्षात प्रारूप आहे ‘नियंत्रित-भांडवलशाही’चं. चीन जितका आधुनिक, तितकाच ऐतिहासिकही. आधुनिकतेच्या महामार्गावर वेगाने पुढे जाताना एखाद्या वळणावर आपली प्राचीनता सोडून द्यावी, असं चीनच्या कोणत्याही सत्ताधीशाला वाटलेलं नाही, मग ते माओ असोत, डेंग असोत वा आजचे क्षी जिनपिंग. हे असे विसंवाद वागवत वागवत पुढे जाणं हे चीनच्या रक्तातच असावं. आजही भारताबरोबरचा संघर्ष असेल वा अमेरिकेशी स्पर्धा- चिनी सत्ताधीश आपली धोरणं ठरवताना इतिहासात दडलेल्या सूत्रांचा आधार घेत असतात. हे चकित करणारं विलक्षण चिनी प्रारूप समजावून देणारं

The Invisible Enemy opens our eyes to how multinational companies and developed nations are working to create some of the most dangerous viruses and biological weapons which can destroy humanity. Chemical and pharma companies have also been the producers of weapons of mass destruction and benefitted from it-be it BASF which produced chemical weapons in World War I, or ICI, the British chemical company which produced a chemical causing blindness. Sandoz, another company, produced LSD, which was part of a chemical warfare project. The British used opium to create drug addicts in the Afghan war. The Invisible Enemy is a timely reminder, and hopefully a wake-up call, to humankind that is fast hurtling towards its own destruction.
