आता माझं नाव जॉन होतं आणि ते जीन कधीपासून झालं, याचा विचार माझ्या मनात आला. कदाचित तो माणूस मला कुठेतरी ओळखणारा असावा. मी त्याला ओळखावं अशी त्याची रास्त अपेक्षा दिसली. त्याला नाराज करणं माझ्या जिवावर आलं आणि मी फ्रेंचमध्येच म्हणालो 'असाच चाललो होतो इथून. आज रात्री मी परत चाललोय.' तो कोण होता, देव जाणे!
