Gone Girl (गॉन गर्ल)
२०१२ मध्ये प्रकाशित झालेलं ‘गॉन गर्ल’ हे गिलियन फ्लिन या लेखिकेचं पुस्तक चांगलंच गाजलं. या कादंबरीतील मुख्य रहस्य हे त्याचा नायक निक् आणि त्याच्या पत्नीच्या बेपत्ता होण्यात असणारा सहभाग यातून निर्माण होतं. लग्नाच्या पाचव्या वाढदिवशी निक्ची पत्नी बेपत्ता होते. इथून कथेला सुरुवात होते. अ‍ॅमीच्या जाण्याचा निक् वर दिसून येणारा परिणाम हा पोलिसांना निक्वर संशय घ्यायला प्रवृत्त करतो. निक्चा दृष्टिकोन आणि अ‍ॅमीची डायरी यातून एक परस्परविरोधी चित्र निर्माण होतं. निक्च्या मते अ‍ॅमी ही एक अंतर्मुख, हट्टी, समाजात फटकून वागणारी आणि अतिरेकी काटेकोर अशी बाई आहे, तर अ‍ॅमीच्या डायरीतून दिसणारं निक्चं चित्र हे आपलं ते खरं म्हणणारा, मूडी, आळशी आणि जरासा धोकादायक नवरा असं आहे. एकूणच लग्नाबद्दलची, संसाराबद्दलची त्यांची मतं आणि अपेक्षा परस्परविरोधी आहेत. जागतिक मंदीच्या लाटेमध्ये नोकरी गमावलेले निक् आणि अ‍ॅमी निक्च्या आईच्या आजारपणात मदत करायला म्हणून निक्च्या मिसुरीमधल्या गावी येतात आणि इथून त्यांच्या संसाराच्या घसरणीला सुरुवात होते. अ‍ॅमीला न्यू यॉर्कमधलं जुनं आयुष्य प्रिय आहे. ते सोडावं लागलं म्हणून तिचा निक्वर राग आहे. अ‍ॅमी नाहीशी झाल्यावर निक् प्रमुख संशयित आहे. तशातच ती बेपत्ता होते, तेव्हा गरोदर असावी असा पुरावा पुढे येतो. आता निक्ला पोलीस आणि लोकक्षोभ दोन्हीला तोंड द्यायला लागणार आहे. दुसऱ्या भागात काही गोष्टींचा उलगडा होतो, तेव्हा लक्षात येतं की दोन्हीही प्रमुख ‘निवेदक’ बेभरवशी आहेत. निक् त्याच्या पत्नीशी प्रतारणा करतोय आणि अ‍ॅमी निक्ला स्वतःच्याच खुनाच्या भानगडीत गुंतवत्येय. हा तिचा सूड आहे. तिच्या डायरीतल्या नोंदी फसव्या आणि गरोदर असणं खोटं आहे. पण ज्या मोटेलमध्ये ती लपूनछपून राहते आहे, तिथं तिला लुटलं जातं आणि तिला आपल्या देसी कॉलिग्ज या मित्राची मदत घेणं भाग पडतं. निक्ला जेव्हा लक्षात येतं की अ‍ॅमी त्याला अडकवायचा प्रयत्न करते आहे आणि त्याला ते सिद्ध करता येत नाही, तेव्हा तो टॅनर बोल्ट या नावाजलेल्या वकिलाची मदत घेतो. अ‍ॅमीपुढे सपशेल शरणागती पत्करल्याचा आभास निर्माण करून मुलाखत देतो, तिची परत येण्याकरता विनवणी करतो. देसीच्या घरात नजरकैदेत असल्यासारखी अ‍ॅमी ही मुलाखत बघते. आता तिला आयताच घरी जायचा रस्ता सापडतो. देसीला भुलवून अ‍ॅमी त्याचा खून करते आणि निक्कडे परत येते. देसीनं आपल्याला पळवून नेलं आणि डांबून ठेवलं, असा कांगावा ती करते. निक् ओळखून आहे की अ‍ॅमी खोटं बोलते आहे, पण त्याच्याकडे पुरावा नाही. अ‍ॅमीच्या गुन्ह्याच्या आणि फसवणुकीच्या तपशिलाचं वर्णन करणारं पुस्तक निक् लिहायला घेतो, पण अ‍ॅमी परत एकदा शेराला सव्वाशेर ठरते. ती फर्टिलिटी सेंटरमध्ये सांभाळून ठेवलेलं निक्चं वीर्य वापरून गर्भवती होते. आणि मग त्याला पुस्तक नष्ट करायला भाग पाडते. होणाऱ्या बाळापासून ती आपल्याला तोडेल, या भीतीनं निक् ते पुस्तक नष्ट करतो आणि त्याच बाळाकरता म्हणून तो पुन्हा अ‍ॅमीसोबत राहण्याचा निर्णय घेतो. Dark Places
A horrific crime has been committed in Kinnakee, a rural town in Kansas, America. The protagonist, Libby Day, witnesses the gruesome murders of her mother and sisters, and somehow manages to escape the scene alive. As the sole survivor and witness to this terrible tragedy, her first-hand account of what happened on the day of the murders is of prime importance to this case. At the end of the trial, her own brother, a teenager at the time, is found guilty as a direct result of her testimony, and is sentenced away to prison for the crime. More than two decades later, the case catches the attention of a few people, who are convinced that the boy is innocent.
