Strong Medicine
I was actually surprised to find that this isn't a first title by this author. She's a doctor, and before this has written some Mills & Boon Medical romances, and her experience in medicine does show. But, this book just didn't work for me, I was constantly jarred out of the action, much of the action happens in the background, with occasional notes as to the medical procedures Dr Calista St James performed while engaging in the action. It's not a bad read, and some of it is quite believable, but Calista just didn't feel real enough for me and made me wonder how she kept herself out of jail. Yes, she's a strong, powerful character, but she and me didn't gel. Calista fights the corruption of systems that leave people dead and think about the bottom line rather than the people. While trying to heal some needy people she puts the lives of the men there to help her at risk, in fact several of them die. So when a crisis happens where she is the last best hope, they ask her to help them again.
