फ्रॅक्चर्ड फ्रीडम हे पुस्तक या प्रामाणिक माणसाने आणि त्याच्या जोडीदाराने, अनुराधाने, एक कठीण ध्येय समोर ठेवून केलेल्या वाटचालीबद्दल आहे. उपेक्षितांसाठी काम करण्याकरिता आयुष्य वेचलेल्या, आणि एका अधिक मानवी, अधिक न्याय्य समाजासाठी थेट कृती आवश्यक आहे असे मानणाऱ्या या दोन लोकांची ही कहाणी आहे. गत आयुष्यातील काही आठवणी, काही तुरुंगातील अनुभव सांगताना गांधी यांनी त्यांचे आयुष्य, प्रेम, गमावलेल्या गोष्टी, राजकारण अशा एकात एक गुंतलेल्या सगळ्या गोष्टींकडे मागे वळून पाहिले आहे. दहा वर्षे भारतातल्या विविध तुरुंगांमध्ये शारीरिक त्रास सोसावे लागलेल्या कोबाड यांनी त्यांच्या या दीर्घ तुरुंगवासाबद्दल, त्यांच्याबरोबर तुरुंगात असलेल्या कैद्यांबद्दल, काफ्काच्या काल्पनिक जगातले वाटावेत अशा भारतीय कायदा व्यवस्थेच्या अनुभवांबद्दल लिहिले आहे. एक अन्याय्य व्यवस्था एका शूर, धैर्यवान माणसालाही कशी दुबळी बनवते त्याचे हे प्रामाणिक आणि आडपडदा न ठेवता लिहिलेले वर्णन यात आहे. ही कहाणी आहे दोन टोकांवरच्या अनुभवांची – उच्चभ्रू जगातल्या संपन्नतेची, आणि आत्यंतिक निराशेची. आपल्या काळातल्या विविध घडामोडींची, आणि बहुसंख्य लोक ज्याच्यापासून दूरच राहतील अशा एका जीवनमार्गाची!

Culture can Kill
Why do certain societies advance and others fall behind? Why did a European discover India rather than an Indian discovering Europe?
