Atal Bihari Vajpayee
From being one of the earliest members of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, Vajpayee blossomed into a leading opposition MP by the late 1960s, went on to become External Affairs Minister in the short-lived Janata government and, finally in 1999, to head the first non-Congress government to complete a full term in office. That it was a coalition government made the feat all the more remarkable and testifies to the fact that though wedded to a right-wing political ideology, Vajpayee did not believe in the politics of exclusion. A protege of Jana Sangh stalwarts like Syama Prasad Mukherjee and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Vajpayee won the admiration of Jawaharlal Nehru, was consulted by his daughter Indira Gandhi - whom he never lacked the courage to criticize - and befriended by fiery trade unionist George Fernandes even before they became political allies. He thus displayed an unusual ability to carry along all shades of political opinion-an ability that came to the fore when he headed the National Democratic Alliance government between 1999 and 2004. And behind this public persona was an unusual personal life, conducted with such dignity as to remain free of innuendo. In this book, journalist Kingshuk Nag traces the political journey of this tall parliamentarian of over four decades, who was conferred the Bharat Ratna in December 2014. Atal Bihari Vajpayee - A Man for All Seasons is a definitive account of the life and times of one of Indias most illustrious non-Congress leaders.

My Gita
In My Gita, acclaimed mythologist Devdutt Pattanaik demystifies The Bhagavad Gita for the contemporary reader. His unique approach thematic rather than verse-by-verse makes the ancient treatise eminently accessible, combined as it is with his trademark illustrations and simple diagrams. In a world that seems spellbound by argument over dialogue, vi-vaad over sam-vaad, Devdutt highlights how Krishna nudges Arjuna to understand rather than judge his relationships. This becomes relevant today when we are increasingly indulging and isolating the self (self-improvement, self-actualization, self-realization even selfies!). We forget that we live in an ecosystem of others, where we can nourish each other with food, love and meaning, even when we fight. So let My Gita inform your Gita

Shakuntala The Woman Wronged
The story of Shakuntala is well known-her upbringing in the ashram, her meeting with Dushyant, their marriage and subsequent separation due to a curse and their final joyous reunion. What is not so well known, however, is that the gentle, lovelorn Shakuntala immortalized by Kalidasa is very different from the original Shakuntala of the Mahabharata a strong, fiery woman who stood up for her rights when she was spurned by her beloved. In this thoughtful retelling of the story of Shakuntala, Utkarsh Patel brings to the fore the original heroine, the bold and beautiful daughter of Menaka and Vishwamitra who fights to get herself and her son the recognition they deserve. She does not surrender to anyone, not even the king of Hastinapur. Retold to suit the modern-day context, Shakuntala: The Woman Wronged is a must-read to understand one of the most powerful yet underrated female characters of the Mahabharata.

No Regrets
The dramatic build-up to the overnight nationalization of fourteen banks in a single legislative sweep sets the stage for No Regrets. In this book, bureaucrat extraordinaire D.N. Ghosh offers an eyewitness account of perhaps the most important event in Indias banking history post-Independence, baring the manoeuvrings behind the enabling ordinance and the pickle over fair compensation for the dispossessed bank owners. But thats not all. Years later, Ghosh enters the portals of the State Bank of India as its chairman, at a time when the stirrings of change have just begun to be felt in the Indian economy. Anticipating the future, he goes for a paradigm shift: to rid profit of its dirty word tag and place it at the core of the banks operating strategy. Gradually, he takes SBI into the capital markets, establishes its credit standing globally, launches India's first mutual fund and, above all, cajoles the trade unions into accepting full computerization. Post-retirement, Ghosh steps into the corporate world. During this period he deals with scarcely veiled threats from a mighty corporate house and even finds himself verbally assaulted by the promoter of an erstwhile bank. In between, the could-have-been-academic tills the soil for certain reputable management institutes to bloom and grow even as he sets up the credit rating agency, ICRA. Full of untold stories, No Regrets is an honest-to-goodness account of a glorious career spanning over six decades and covering some epochal events whose reverberations continue to be felt in the corridors of bureaucracy, banking and business to this day.

Katha
Some of the most successful people of our times are master storytellers. From Steve Jobs to N.R. Narayana Murthy, from Indra Nooyi to Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, the best communicators are those who effectively use stories, analogies, metaphors and even jokes to get their message across. Maybe you are an entrepreneur, trying to sell your business plan to potential investors. Maybe you are the head of a company, trying to influence your employees to follow a rather unconventional path. Or a mid-level manager, trying to convince your boss to take a chance on a project. No matter which field you are in, there comes a time when you have to persuade and influence, and theres no better way to do it than by narrating stories. In fact, the modern designation of chief storytelling officer (CSO) - which is said to have begun at Nike in the nineties - is a growing trend in companies. Katha - Tell a Story, Sell a Dream is about the art of storytelling in business. It tells you why stories are important, when you must tell a story and how to find and tell the most effective tales, whether you are communicating to stakeholders, business associates, employees or colleagues. Written in simple, lucid prose, Kath will demonstrate why the art of storytelling is perhaps the number one skill and how the power of storytelling may well be the key to achieving your goals.

The Nyaya Theory Of Knowledge
The Nyaya philosophy is primarily concerned with the conditions of valid thought and the means of acquiring true knowledge of objects. Its ultimate end, like that of the other systems of Indian philosophy, is liberation - a state of pure existence, which is free from both pleasure and pain. For the attainment of this liberation, a true knowledge of objects is the surest means. Hence the theory of knowledge is the very foundation of the Nyaya system. The Nyaya theory of Knowledge is the first systematic, critical and comparative treatment of the Nyaya epistemology. It reveals how, as a thorough-going realistic view of the universe, the Nyaya philosophy supplies an important eastern parallel to the triumphant modern realism of the west and contains anticipations of as well as possible alternatives to many contemporary realistic theories. This book is important as much for the correct understanding of ancient Indian philosophy, as for the evaluation of modern western philosophy. About the Author Satishchandra Chatterjee was formerly head of the department of philosophy, Calcutta University. He was also visiting faculty of the University of Hawaii.

S. Eliot and others.
