Mahabharata.
Originally published in the year 1951,the huge popularity of the book ,has resulted in the book being re-printed several times. Centuries ago, it was proclaimed of the Mahabharata: "What is not in it, is nowhere." But even now, we can use the same words about it. He who knows it not, knows not the heights and depths of the soul; he misses the trials and tragedy and the beauty and grandeur of life. More details: The Mahabharata is not a mere epic; it is a romance, telling the tale of heroic men and women, and of some who were divine; it is a whole literature in itself, containing a code of life, a philosophy of social and ethical relations, and speculative thought on human problems that is hard to rival; but, above all, it has for its core the Gita, which is, as the world is beginning to find out, the noblest of scriptures and the grandest of sagas in which the climax is reached in the wondrous apocalypse in the Eleventh Canto. The book's popularity is such that it has run into forty two reprints.

History Of Tipu Sultan
n the present work, an attempt has been made to give an accurate picture of Tipu Sultan by disengaging his personality from masses of fictions and distortions which have gathered round him. As practically the whole of Tipu's life was taken up with fighting, the author has devoted considerable space to campaigns and battles. However, he has not ignored other aspects of his career. He has paid sufficient attention to the causes and results of wars, while Tipus relations with the English, the French, The Nizam, the Marathas and the Ottoman Sultan have been fully discussed. The last three chapters of the book have been devoted to a description of the Sultans government and army, his reforms and religious policy, his efforts at industrialization and state Socialism, his character, his failures and achievements. This pioneering study will enable the reader to appraise the career and character of this extraordinary man. Its scholarly value is enhanced by Professor Hasans extensive use of English, French, Persian and Urdu sources. In this revised and enlarged edition Professor Mohibbul Hasan has made a reassessment of the sources, and attempted, with the help of works, hitherto unutilized, to make a more detailed study of Tipu and fill in the gaps left out in his earlier work. He has accordingly, rewritten a number of chapters, made alterations and additions in others, and corrected mis-statements and removed obscurities which occurred in the first edition. A leading historian, the late Professor Mohibbul Hasan taught History at the Department of Islamic History, University of Calcutta, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh, and University of Kashmir, Srinagar. He founded the history department at the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and was the universitys first professor.
