डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर हे अर्थशास्त्र, राज्यशास्त्र आणि कायदा या विषयांमधील उच्च कोटीचे विद्वान होते. आर्थिक अडचणींवर मात करून दुहेरी पीएच.डी. प्राप्त करणारे आंबेडकर हे अत्यंत प्रतिभावंत विद्यार्थी होते. अर्थशास्त्रज्ञ, प्राध्यापक, वकील अशा विविध क्षेत्रांमध्ये त्यांनी मूलभूत काम करताना वृत्तपत्रांची निर्मिती केली. कायमच दलितांच्याराजकीय हक्कांचा पुरस्कार केला. भारतीय स्वातंत्र्य मिळवताना इंग्रजांना फटकावण्यासही त्यांनी कमी केले नाही. ते अतिशय स्पष्टवक्ते होते. त्यांच्या अनेक लेखांतून स्वतःबद्दलचे निवडक लेख वाचकांना निश्चितच प्रेरणादायी ठरतील. “सैन्यातील नोकरीमुळे आम्हाला आपले जीवनमान सुधारण्याची संधी लाभली होती. त्यामुळे बुद्धिमता चातुर्य आणि तडफ यांबाबतीत आम्ही इतरांपेक्षा वीतभरही कमी नाही, हे सिद्ध करू शकलो. आमच्या गुणांमुळेच सैन्यातील अधिकायांच्या जागी आमच्या नेमणुका झाल्या त्याकाळी सैन्य छावणीतील शाळांमध्ये हेडमास्तरांच्या जागी अस्पृश्य नेमले जात असत. सैन्य छावणी कॅम्पसमध्ये प्राथमिक शिक्षण सक्तीचे असल्याने त्याचा योग्य तो परिणाम जीवनावर झाला आहे. सैन्याचे दरवाजे महार जातीसाठी बंद करून ब्रिटिशांनी आमच्याशी विश्वासघात केला असून, ते कृतघ्नतेचे लक्षण आहे.’ अशी डॉ. बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर यांची अनेक सडेतोड विधाने वाचताना वाचक अचंबित झाल्याशिवाय राहणार नाहीत.

ज्योतिषशास्त्र या विषयावर अनेक प्रकारचे भरपूर लिखाण उपलब्ध आहे; परंतु आश्चर्य म्हणजे या शास्त्राचा परिपूर्ण व शास्त्रशुद्ध असा शब्दकोश मात्र निघालेला नव्हता. या शास्त्राची परिभाषा, त्यातील शब्दांचे शास्त्रीय अर्थ हे लोकांपुढे आणण्याचा कोणीही प्रयत्न केलेला नव्हता. म्हणूनच ज्योतिषशास्त्राचा एखादा समृद्ध असा शब्दकोश असावा, या विचाराने शोभा प्रभु यांनी सुमारे साडेचार हजार शब्दांच्या समाविष्टांसह या ज्योतिष शब्दग्रंथाची निर्मिती केली आहे. या शब्दग्रंथाची पहिली आवृत्ती २६. फेब्रुवारी २००२ रोजी प्रकाशित झाली. ग्रंथाची उपयुक्तता जाणून ही दुसरी आवृत्ती आता २०२२मध्ये प्रकाशित करीत आहोत. ज्योतिषशास्त्रातील हा एकमेव शब्दग्रंथ वाचकांना नक्की आवडेल आणि उपयुक्त ठरेल, याची खात्री वाटते.

सौ. आरती काळे यांची 'विठाईची कान्हाई' ही संत कान्होपात्रा यांच्या जीवनावरची कादंबरी आहे. संत कान्होपात्रा ही वारकरी संतांमधील सोनचाफ्याचे फूल आहे. ती शामा गणिकेची मुलगी असून अत्यंत सौंदर्यवती, नृत्यनिपुण व मधुर आवाज असणारी होती. तिच्या सौंदर्याची, नृत्याची, आवाजाची ख्याती दूरवर पसरली होती; पण ती मात्र विठ्ठलभक्तीत तल्लीन होती. पांडुरंगाशी तिची एकनिष्ठता, भक्ती इतकी श्रेष्ठ होती की, बिदरचा राजा तिच्या सौंदर्याने मोहित होऊन तिला पकडून आणण्यासाठी सरदार पाठवतो; पण ती शेवटचे दर्शन घ्यायला विठ्ठल मंदिरात जाते व आपला देह विठ्ठलचरणी समर्पित करते. मृत्यूलासुद्धा आपल्या इच्छेने, भक्तीने अधीन करून घेणारी कान्होपात्रा एक श्रेष्ठ भक्त आहे. ,P>सौ. आरती काळे यांच्या 'विठाईची कान्हाई' या कादंबरीत कान्होपात्रेच्या आयुष्यातील उत्कट भक्तीचा, विरक्तीचा प्रत्यय येतो. त्याचबरोबर तिच्या आयुष्यातील संघर्ष, गणिकेचे जीवन, तत्कालीन समाज व संस्कृती यांचे दर्शन घडते. कान्होपात्रा गणिका व सुंदर असल्याने तिच्या वाट्याला येणारे दुख, एक स्त्री म्हणून तिच्या वेदना, यातना आपल्याला जाणवतात; पण तिची भक्ती, एकनिष्ठता पाहून मन विस्मित होते, तिचा हा उत्कट प्रवास लेखिकेने आपल्या ओघवत्या शैलीत, अर्थपूर्ण संवादात व रसाळ भाषेत फार भावपूर्णरीत्या रेखाटला आहे. प्रा. डॉ. श्रुती श्री वगबाळकर

'तूच आहेस तुझ्या जीवनाचा शिल्पकार' म्हणजे वास्तव शांतपणे मान्य करून स्वत:ला स्वतःची झालेली खरी ओळख!
