Gabhulalelya Chandrabanat (गाभुळलेल्या चंद्रबनात)

Valmikiramayana (वाल्मीकिरामायण)
श्रीवाल्मीकिरामायणाला आदिकाव्याचा दर्जा आहे. रामकथा भारतभर पसरून अनेक भाषांमध्ये रामायण लिहिले गेले आहे; परंतु फक्त मूळ वाल्मीकिरामायण समोर ठेवून त्यावर प्रवचने होणे हे मराठीत तसे अपूर्वच. श्री. माधवराव चितळे यांनी अशा या ८८ प्रवचनांचा प्रपंच पाच वर्षांत पूर्ण केला. त्याचेच हे संपादित रूप! वाल्मीकींची रचना साहित्य म्हणून सुंदर आहेच; पण ही नुसती रामकथा नाही. त्यात इतिहास, भूगोल, समाजव्यवस्था, त्यातील चालीरीती, राज्यव्यवस्था, राजाकडून असलेल्या अपेक्षा, मानवी संबंध अशा अनेक विषयांची विस्तृत मांडणी आहे. अगदी आपल्याला आश्चर्य वाटेल अशी! या प्रवचनांमध्ये अशा सर्व पैलूंवर प्रकाश टाकलेला दिसेल आणि आजच्या संदर्भातले याचे महत्त्वही कळेल. तसेच काही रूढ समजुती - उदा. सीतास्वयंवर, अहल्येची, शबरीची कथा याबद्दलही वाल्मीकींनी वेगळेच सांगितलेले दिसेल. वाल्मीकींचा हनुमान तर आपल्या कथांमधून येणार्या हनुमानापेक्षा कसा वेगळा होता तेही महत्त्वाचे आहे. राम हा विष्णूचा अवतार म्हणून जन्माला आला असला तरी रामायणात त्याचे एक कर्तबगार मानव असेच चित्रण आहे, ‘राम’ असाच उल्लेख आहे. मग आपण त्याला ‘प्रभू राम’ असे का म्हणावे, ते ह्या प्रवचनांमधील प्रदीर्घ विवेचन वाचून आपल्याला समजेल. शेकडो वर्षांपासून भारतीय जनमानसाच्या मनावर राज्य करणारी ही रामकथा मूळ स्वरूपात आजच्या संदर्भाने कथन करण्यात आलेली असून, नवीन पिढीलाही हा ग्रंथ तितकाच रोमांचक वाटेल.
